At Elegant Publications Company (EPCo), we are building a 501(c)3 non-profit, whose mission is to provide opportunites for emerging authors.
Suncoast Stories will contribute to that mission by offering a platform to reach a diverse public audience. Free to the public, funded by donations, grants, and patron ads; print copies will be available in the Suncoast area wherever tourists and/or book lovers are.
The magazine's online presence will be built around weekly social media spotlights of individual published stories, to promote the magazine and thereby promote all of the authors. The marketing will link to the website where the story is published, for two months ( 1 week as featured then 8 weeks in the archive), then removed. Each week a new story will be added, to be removed (hidden) eight weeks later. The goal of the forced scarcity is to attempt to increase the value of the author's brand as well as motivate audiences to return to the site.
We will be offering prizes, because awards ceremonies make for good marketing and our purpose here is to promote our writers. The awards will be modest, at this time, but there will be fanfare. As ScS grows, so will the rewards for our authors.
A community of authors and readers cross-promoting each other should be able to create enough of a presence to turn a small, local magazine into a an actual stepping stone for a new generation of authors. All funded by local sponsors (yes, advertising) and donations. A concept which, if successful, could easily be replicated elsewhere. If sports fans can support stadiums and mansions, surely we can support a literary magazine for our rising stars of literary talent.
We are not restricitve. Our purpose is to promote authors and storytelling. Anyone who lives in the general Bay Area may submit via this form. We will accept any genre of short fiction from 1500-5000 words. Our guidelines for what we will accept are fairly broad, because we want to get new and different voices heard.
However... we also have a responsibility to our audience not to waste their time. So please don't send us your first draft. If the spelling and grammar are on point, and the story is coherent, we will probably publish your story. On the other hand, if we need to take a red pencil to your submission, we will most likely decline. Please, take one more run at it.
We accept submissions on a rolling basis. If you wish to submit please use the form on the submission page, as it is the only method we accept.
Any questions or comments other than submissions, please use the form below. We welcome your feedback and promise never never to share or sell your personal info.
